Rare Snowfall Seen on Mount Kinabalu 28th February 2022

28 February 2022

Lucky climbers were greeted by snowfall over the summit of Mount Kinabalu early this morning at approximately 7:00 AM! Snow on Mount Kinabalu is a rare event with the last known report back in 2018 and previous recordings in 1993 and 1975. Temperatures at the summit can drop to as low as 0°C - 3°C and it is not uncommon for frost and ice sheets to form across the open rock surface. Only when both the humidity and temperature reach just the right levels will you be able to see snow form and be treated to such an extraordinary sight.
