Landslide Destroys Homestay in Kundasang Following Heavy Rainfall

A landslide triggered by continuous heavy rainfall destroyed Syameen’s Homestay in Kampung Cinta Mata, Kundasang, on 16 January 2025. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported as the building was unoccupied during the incident.
The Ranau Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 5:32 PM and immediately dispatched a team of three firemen with a fire engine. The team arrived swiftly, confirmed the structural damage, and began coordinating evacuation advice for nearby residents.
Swift Emergency Response Ensures No Loss of Life
Ridwan Mohd Taib, Head of the Ranau Fire and Rescue Station, said the landslide was the result of prolonged rainfall over the past few days. The fire team, supported by the Civil Defence Force (APM) Ranau, monitored the area and advised villagers to relocate to safer zones as a precaution.
The operation officially ended by 6:06 PM, with no lives lost and the situation under control. However, authorities continue to monitor the area due to the ongoing risk of further soil movement.
